Video: Aalsmeer Flower Auction: One of the Largest Flower Auctions in the World

The Aalsmeer Flower Auction is one of the largest flower auctions in the world, located in Aalsmeer, the Netherlands. It is a marketplace where growers, buyers, and exporters of flowers and plants come together to trade their products. The auction takes place in a building that covers an area of over 1.2 million square feet, where flowers and plants from all over the world are traded.

The Aalsmeer Flower Auction has been in operation since 1911 and was originally a place where local growers would bring their flowers to sell. However, it has now expanded to become an international marketplace, with buyers from over 140 countries attending the auctions every day.

The auction process at Aalsmeer is automated, with flowers and plants being displayed on conveyor belts in front of buyers. The auction begins with a clock that ticks down from 100 to 0, and buyers must place their bids before the clock reaches zero. The highest bidder wins, and the flowers are then sent to the buyer’s location.

Each day, the Aalsmeer Flower Auction trades over 20 million flowers and plants, making it a crucial part of the global flower trade industry. The auction provides a valuable opportunity for growers to sell their products and for buyers to purchase high-quality, fresh flowers and plants at competitive prices.
