“Our nearly two weeks Italian vacation that concluded with the Dolce & Gabbana Alta Sartoria fashion show and a hotel stay in the historic Hotel Danielle in Venice Italy actually began in the countryside and on the river of Italy with a very warm welcome from the excellent team at European Waterways and after a delicious lunch prepared by our own onboard chef, our very handsome tour guide Flavio and lovely Ilaria took us to the Gonzaga family ruled city of Mantua for our first excursion, where Flavio who is from Padova introduced us to Italian hospitality by treating everyone to Gelati! [Thank you very much!] What a sweet beginning to our lovely vacation!”

A Delightful Dinner

“After returning to our European Waterways chartered barge La Bella Vita from our first excursion to ancient city Mantua, our onboard chef already has our dinner ready for us to enjoy. The menu of every lunch and dinner onboard is always displayed & listed clearly on the menu blackboard in large easy to read letters. Once everyone is seated, and while the chef readies everyone’s first course for serving, our servers, on thus trip it is Francesca & Alice, first introduce the wine pairings. At every lunch and dinner onboard, there will always be at least two kinds of Italian wines, one white and one red, and when appropriate, there would also be a dessert wine or some other special wine as well, and there is no limit… Within reason, of course. After the sweet dessert, at least two kinds of cheeses are introduced and served, and sometimes another wine is introduced to pair with the cheeses. It seems in Italy cheeses are often enjoyed at the end of the meal with wine after the sweet dessert, very interesting. Then after dinner, as if the first day wasn’t perfect enough, this was the nightsky outside the boat windows…”

A Denver Omelette

“On our private chartered luxury barge, breakfast is usually served at 7 to 7:30am in order to accommodate with the day’s scheduled excursion following breakfast, though it can be adjusted per the guests’ needs, such as a strong hangover after a very happy evening… (Yes, it happened!). Every morning, there is a very nice spread of continental breakfast items that one would see at any international hotel’s breakfast offerings, with fresh fruits, breads and crescents, sandwich meats and salami, various cheeses, dried fruits and nuts, and toasts that will be toasted upon request, and all are selected for you by the servers with utensils, per new Covid-requirements, no self-service, including the bar. Once breakfast is served, the onboard chef is ready to take orders for eggs, any way you like, with any trimmings you like. An anecdote: when a member of our group asked for “Denver Omelette”, and he had to google for ingredients in order to tell our server what’s in it!”

Our Chartered Home on the Water

“Our chartered “home on the water”, our “private hotel all to ourselves and no one else” on the water, our “ideal solution to all travel headaches and hassles ever encountered”, and our safe haven where smiles are always warm and welcoming us and our tired and hungry souls back from the day’s conquest! We greeted and laughed, we toasted and rejoiced, we celebrated and shared our hopes, dreams, aspirations, as well as future travel plans, between those walls; we sang and danced on the very floor built by Captain Diego himself with his own hands, and above that same floor we had our most memorable Captain’s Dinner, where we got to know one another best on our last night together on the barge. I will forever remember the good times I had on La Bella Vita! Grazie!”

“What a super hospitable and friendly and generous team the entire European Waterways crew was, from the captain Diego (who owns this barge that he restored and built the floor himself with his own hands, along with some 15 other barges he owns and operates), to our tour guides from beautiful city of Padova and the lovely Ilaria, and the beautiful and charming servers Francesca and Alice, and the always very helpful deck hands Andrea & Alex! They even sacrificed their cool image for us when we requested they join the opera performance! We’re so very grateful they made our vacation so much more wonderful and perfect! I am and will miss them very much!

In fact we have traveled with European Waterways multiple times already in Burgundy & Alsace in France, as well as in London on the Thames river, and it was always very high standard and surpassing expectations every time, this time is no exception, bravo European Waterways! We look forward to more future travels with your excellent company!”
