All Aboard for a Flower Show Cruise

Flower Show 400

For the green fingered among us, the coming of May means one thing: the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. This world-famous and prestigious exhibition of garden design is the must-see event in any keen gardener’s calendar. Those who have booked onto a Flower Show Cruise aboard Magna Carta will be lucky enough to experience it first-hand.

Every year since 1913, the Chelsea Flower Show has been held in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea (disrupted only by the two World Wars). Amazingly, three of the firms that exhibited in the very first exhibition are still displaying their wares today. 12 years after its inception, the Royal Horticultural Society was petitioned by disgruntled British gardeners to ban foreign exhibits at the show. The RHS, however, responded by telling them that “horticulture knows nothing of nationality”.

Ever since that declaration in 1927, it has been synonymous with cutting-edge garden design from all around the world. The hotly-contested Show Garden competition is the epitome of horticultural innovation, with gardens inspired by places across the globe. Guests on Magna Carta will enjoy browsing the stands in the huge marquee and find inspiration in the magnificent gardens that, although cultivated for months, will last only a week.

And that’s not all. If you’re grass-green with envy at the thought of missing the chance to join our Flower Cruise in May don’t worry, as there is another one at the beginning of July. This itinerary features a day at the RHS Hampton Court Flower Show, the world’s largest annual exhibition of its kind set in the magnificent grounds of Hampton Court Palace. Guests will be able to explore the show gardens and plant pavilions as well as enjoying an excellent programme of demonstrations, talks and exhibits.

Cruising through the Garden of England

Whichever Flower Show Cruise you choose, you can be sure to enjoy some of England’s most beautiful horticultural scenes as there will also be visits to Kew Gardens, RHS Wisley, Cliveden sited alongside the River Thames and Savill Gardens in the midst of Royal Windsor Great Park.
