Video: Château de Tanlay

Surrounded by rolling hills where white Charolais cattle graze and where mistletoe hangs from poplars, Tanlay seems right out of a picture book. The château at Tanlay, one of the finest in Burgundy, was built in the 15th and 16th centuries and has a beautifully-decorated interior. Ensconced in a series of moats, arcades and iron grills, the château is actually a petit château and a grand château, all surrounded by a park. Washhouses (les lavoirs) were built in 1821 in the castle moat. The château was once the meeting location for area Protestants.
