What's So Special About our Downton Abbey Cruises?

Back in 2013, we introduced a tour of Highclere Castle on a unique departure aboard elegant Magna Carta as a special request for fans of the critically acclaimed TV series, Downton Abbey . Even though the TV series has now ended,  fans are as excited as ever to walk in the footsteps of the talented actors and actresses who made it such a captivating drama. Read on to find out  more about our enchanting Downton Abbey cruises on the Royal River Thames

Highclere Castle

Introducing Highclere Castle

This hugely impressive Victorian castle sits on an expansive 1,000 acre estate surrounded by gardens and is the iconic home to the fictional Crawley family on the show. In actual fact, the ‘real’ Downton Abbey has been owned by the Carnarvon family since 1679, where Lord and Lady Carnarvon still live today.  Enjoy a morning tour of the castle, Egyptian Exhibition and gardens, before a delightful lunch.

A Thoroughly British Cruise

The itinerary aboard Magna Carta also includes tours of other riverside landmarks that have featured in TV and films, such as Cliveden (‘Scandal’), as well as Windsor Castle and Hampton Court Palace.

And as usual with our cruises along the Thames, there will also be one of our most fascinating ‘Insider Experiences’ – a private tour of Peter Freebody’s 300-year-old boatyard, where your clients can meet the current generation of craftsmen who build and restore traditional River Thames boats.
