If you are a family with children, we are able to create a bespoke itinerary and substitute a maximum of 4 excursions from our Classic Cruise Itinerary with your preferred family activities.

The following activities can usually be arranged by our Customer Services team or the barge Captain and can be included in your itinerary without any extra charge:

Archery (14 years+)
Think you’re good enough to take on Robin Hood? Set in a beautiful 25 acre forest deep in the Burgundy hillsides you can. Archery is a sport requiring concentration, discipline and skill – try to get as close to the centre of the targets as possible to build up your points!

Bowling
16 lane bowling alley with ramps to help children play. Restaurant facilities available, as is the hire of bowling shoes.

Chateau Guedelon – Medieval Castle Construction Project
A team of 50 master craftsmen are building a castle from scratch using only the materials and construction techniques available during the Middle Ages. The only construction of its type in the world, the Chateau Guedelon is certainly a day trip for the whole family to enjoy!

Horse-Drawn Carriage Ride
Extend your visit to the royal Chateau de Fontainebleau with a 20 minute horse-drawn carriage ride around the Grand Parterre and park areas in the grounds. Each carriage is drawn by two horses.

Canoeing & Kayaking
Discover the beauty of the Upper Loire countryside with either a gentle river or white-water canoe and kayak ride on the serene River Loire. Prices differ depending on the desired length of the course. Shoes are compulsory – it is recommended to wear jelly shoes. Please bring a change of clothes. Towels will be provided by the barge.

Tennis
The tennis club in Chatillon sur Loire is equipped with two outdoor courts, a clubhouse and a covered playground.

Swimming at Souppes-sur-Loing lake and beach
Set around a 25 hectare lake, there are plenty of activities to enjoy at Souppes-sur-Loing lake and beach, including a day of fun-filled swimming in the Blue Flag-certified areas. Featuring three pools and a pontoon, plus a fine sand beach area.

Tree Climbing & Zip Line (height restrictions apply)
Located in the middle of the Forest of Sologne, in a site of over 10 acres, 8 tree-climbing and 8 zip line courses are available so that you too can live like the squirrels and climb high into the trees. There’s something for everyone here. Instructors are on-hand to ensure your visit is both enjoyable and, above all, safe! Visitors must be taller than 1 metre.

Pony Trekking & Biking
From the old lock house in Chatillon-sur-Loire there is pony-trekking, pedal go-karts, road bikes (VTC) and quadracycles.

Go-Karting (7 years+)
Two outdoor go-karting tracks measuring 700m and 1200m allow adults and children alike to drive a Sodi GT Max karts powered by 20HP Rotax engine. All protective clothing (jump suits, helmets, gloves) are provided by the complex. Prices depend on the number of sessions requested. Must be booked in advance.

The following activities* can usually be arranged but, due to their nature, they should be booked directly by the client with the activity provider. Our Customer Services team or the barge Captain will be able to assist with any bookings. The cost of these activities are not included in your itinerary:

Hot Air Ballooning
Discover the beautiful scenery of the Loire Valley countryside from a different perspective – in a hot air balloon! A chance to witness a change in landscapes – the River Loire, the vineyards and the fields sweeping for miles below your feet. A once in a lifetime experience and one for the whole family to enjoy. Please be advised, this activity is only suitable for those who are mobile and fit as standing is required during the entirety of the flight – approximately 2 hours. Must be pre-booked.

Paint-Balling (12 years+)
Go to war with this fun-filled paintballing experience set within 30 acres of woodlands. Within the vast grounds you will find houses, bunkers and palisades to make your game just that bit more fun and realistic! Several scenarios are proposed such as ‘Giant Rabbit Hunt’,’ Taking the Hill’,’ Ambush’ and ‘Taking of the Flags’.
